A New Era
How does everything change in a day? How can one feel depressed about their government, question the people who elected a certain president and then in one night, one moment it
all just changes?
Barack Obama, that is how. The people came out in record numbers to vote for change. For something ELSE. It is still astonishing and wonderful to me.
The Associated Press reports Obama won North Carolina on Thursday, a triumph that underscored his political strength as he turned nine states that President Bush won in 2004 to
Democratic blue.
Even little kids know something is brewing. Almost seven year old Tom, happily tells me when I read to the class on Wednesday morning post election. "Obama was elected president"
Yes he was, I some how say, choking past the tears.
Today our little friend Jonah (4.5) gets in our car to carpool home. He and Sam pretend to make the Brooklyn Bridge out of the armrests in the backseat. They have been pretending
"the Brooklyn Bridge" is on fire.
Jonah then yelps: Oh no! Smoke! Obama does not like smoke. It's bad for the environment! Obama does not like war! Obama likes what is good for people! I had to bite my lip.
Yeah, Sam mutters. Who was that other bad guy?
Um, George Bush? I think to myself... yeah, he was the bad guy I was ranting about yesterday when I said: No MORE GEORGE BUSH. No more! Get out and don't come back! I pretended
to lock George Bush on our porch.
Glad Sam wasn't listening or anything.
